52 Portraits: The Portrait-A-Week Challenge

At the beginning of 2016, I set myself the goal to complete a Portrait a week for the entire year.

Why 52 Portraits?

This is intended as a speed challenge for myself. My works, while generally much larger than A4, usually take me anywhere from 40 to 100 hours to complete. When you remove the hours allocated to 'earning a crust', and general life stuff, it is understandable that at this rate I complete a handful of works in a year.

I guess if you stare for a moment at the tip of a pencil and appreciate the very humble surface area it covers in a stroke, I can't be terribly disappointed with this quota. However, I started to become curious that perhaps, with an outrageous goal and a little flexibility, I might begin to play more with the features of a 'portrait', and create a more bulky portfolio in the space of a year.

So here it is, the 'Portrait-A-Week' Challenge, where my only requirement is that each work is completed in less than 10 hours.
